Research Designation

Are you assisting a student in research hours or an honor thesis that involve service hours? This project may qualify for Service Learning designation!

To be designated as a Service Learning thesis or dissertation, your project must meet the following criteria:

  1. Addresses a community (which includes schools, organizations, agencies and companies that comply with the rules of University of Arkansas) need through formal collaborations with program-identified appropriate partners.
  2. Supports attainment of one or more course learning objectives.
  3. Involves structured reflection.
  4. Demonstrates clear and articulated connection between service activity and course content.
  5. Requires five hours of service for every credit hour of course work.

Students are encouraged to complete this InfoReady Application to pursue having their project designated with service learning.

The purpose of this application is to identify student research that includes Service Learning components. Note, if the student is pursuing a two/three article approach toward their research and only one/some of those articles feature Service Learning research, the thesis or dissertation can still be designated as Service Learning.

While the application is easy, the process to get service learning designation on thesis/dissertation hours takes time. Therefore, this form should be completed at least one semester before enrolling in thesis/dissertation hours.
